Pagan Penguin Promises
TODAY’S PROMPT FROM THE FOUND POETRY REVIEW:
Compose a poem whose words — or at least the principal ones — all begin with the same letter. The words must be sourced from your newspaper.
I had an additional constraint today. Last night, in a late night fit of Facestorm frivolity, the subject of penguins came up (specifically, the practices of crafty poets who like to knit little sweaters for penguins.) Someone challenged me to write a penguin poem. Somehow, the penguins were specifically identified as pagan penguins. So. There were neither pagans nor penguins in today’s issue of the Arizona Republic. Note the bold cap “spine” down the center of the poem, spelling out “pagan penguins.” Please note that this is frivolous word play, and I have no intention of casting aspersions on either pagans or penguins. Any aspersion cast upon promised-prosperity preachers/politicians, however, is indeed intentional.
